Why Do You Need Life Insurance?

Life insurance is sold under a number of reasons today. The main purpose, however, is to ensure that the ones that are dependent on you for support can continue to live at the same level of comfort after you are gone.

With children coming and going, as well as different financial obligations at different stages of life, this means that you really do have changing needs for life insurance at different times. Probably the greatest need for it is when you are buying a home and have children at home.

According to the New York State Department of Insurance, "The amount of insurance you buy should depend on the standard of living you wish to assure your dependents… Life insurance helps bridge the gap between the financial needs of your dependents and the amount available from other sources." It is also possible that there could be sizable medical bills, too, which could certainly add a lot of financial strain on the family after you are gone.

If you have an estate of any size, you need to know that it can take up to three years to settle an estate. During that time, things like property taxes still have to be paid, your loved ones will need an income, and normal bills have to be paid, as well.

Taking care of the young one's education later on can also be provided for by a life insurance policy. Of course, it is based on the assumption that you could die before they graduate, but you never really do know. The good news is that they can be provided for against the unexpected by a good life insurance policy.
