Where Do You Get Your Financial News?
Some chatter today about AOL upgrading its finance portal made me wonder: where's the best place for financial news? What are the one or two sites you go to when you want to check stocks, or want to understand a finance concept, or want a calculator to figure out a potential mortgage payment, or whatever?

I'm a fan of Yahoo! Finance. I like that Yahoo knows how to cram a lot of information onto the portal's main page without making it overwhelming. I also like their new & improved charts, and I still go to their message boards despite the constant trolling. And I like Ben Stein's articles, even if at times I find him annoying. I wouldn't be sad if they lost Suze Orman, Robert Kiyosaki and david bach, though. David Bach says everything right, but how he got to be a honcho in the PF game is beyond me-just too boring. I also don't like Yahoo's stock screener anymore-it's untrustworthy, showing you different results for the same screen even if you perform them minutes apart.

I've switched to USA Today's Stock Screener, which really isn't the greatest thing in the world, but it allows me to easily slice and dice by market capitalization, which I like to look at when I'm ready to lose more of my money by buying individual stocks.

I like this mutual fund finder from Marketwatch, which gives you top funds based on a variety of timeframes and fund types.

I was unhappy with E-Trade today when they totally disappeared from the Internets for about the last half-hour of trading (thankfully I didn't want to make any trades, but I'll bet some people did based on the huge upswing today and were hopping mad when the site simply did not materialize), but they have probably the cheapest trading prices and I like their charts that show your portfolio performance versus major indices.

In the blogging arena, kudos to PFBlogs for keeping a running tally on new posts from finance bloggers. I always go there to see what people are thinking about and to find new stuff to write about.

If I only had one personal finance blog to read it would have to be Single Ma. First off, she's hilarious. Second, I get to check out the world from a perspective different from the middle-aged white man that I am. I don't really learn about money, from Single Ma, but I learn a little more about life. And she's a breath of fresh air when compared to the often numbing preaching to the choir posts of other bloggers (myself included). Maybe Yahoo could switch out Suze Orman with Single Ma. That would be awesome.
