There are many ways that you can reduce your taxes each year. Since it is only a few days away from the tax deadline – April 15th – your options are limited. Some of them can be used even at this late date.
One that can be used even now is putting money into an IRA or 401(k). Some other similar instruments may also qualify, as well. Saving money in a retirement account enables you to deduct it from your gross income, and it removes taxes, too – until you take it out. Generally, this will be after you retire.

If you need health insurance, then you can also reduce your income by establishing a Health Savings Account (HSA). These accounts give you a high deductible health insurance policy, act as retirement savings, and enable you to deduct it like an IRA. If you are in rather good health, this could enable you to cover two needs at the same time. Health insurance helps give you peace of mind and it will also cover the costs of lodging a compensation claim in the event of clinical negligence
Another way to reduce your total income which allows you to pay less taxes (it still must be reported – just in another place) – is to give gifts. Gifts are allowable up to $12,000 per person. This means a husband and a wife may give a combined total of $24,000.
Money can also be put into an account for education purposes, and this is also deductible. The main tool used for this is a 529 account of some kind, an UTMA, or a Coverdell. Each of these will reduce your income and your taxes, too.
These tax deductions help you to save money on taxes, and will allow you to give it to recipients of your choice. A couple of them even do allow last minute donations which are still deductible. By learning more about these, you could save money become debt free by increasing contributions to these accounts
