Tips for Saving Money on Large Expenses
Filed in archive Saving on March 18, 2009
Buying large items can lead to paying more than you need to if you are not careful. Simple tricks can enable you to cut the costs on those large purchases, and save money. Here are a few ideas.
Avoid Impulse Buying
Store advertising always focuses on creating images and impressions just for people who love to buy things on impulse. They also put sweet things and little gadgets by the checkouts, too - for the same purpose. Impulse buying usually takes the shortcut of not taking the time to really think your purchases through.
Take Time to Compare
Impulse buying usually results in buying without comparison. There is just a "gotta have it now" feeling that dictates the transaction. Learning to wait on large purchases - and avoiding impulse buying altogether - will enable you to save money - a lot of it. Comparing cost and quality will allow you to end up with the best deal - not just a convenient one.
It is probably also a good idea to shop online rather than go to a store and be tempted to buy on the spot. Once you have the money, of course, and have compared process, look around.
Wait Until You Can Buy with Cash
While you cannot buy everything with cash, like a house or a car, most other things you can. Waiting will give you time to evaluate your motive and your need, as well as giving you time to save money and not have to pay more in interest.

I especially love your last remark about paying with cash. Why not?! It's a great way to avoid interest.
