While you are on the road it is easy to stop at the fast food places and restaurants. Of course, when you get hungry it is also easier to stop at fancier and more costly restaurants, too - the ones you don't usually eat at. You can save a considerable amount of money on your vacation, though, if you eat out - picnic style - at least once a day.
When you arrive at your destination for the day, find out which restaurants have special deals and eat there. Remember, too, that many restaurants allow kids under a certain age to eat free. Look for them, and save a bundle over the duration of your vacation.
Planning your meals - and snacks - will also help to reduce the overall costs. This will let you save money and use it for other fun activities. Don't forget that if you stay at a hotel, to find out what they have for continental breakfasts - and then there is no cost for that meal.
