You can get a low cost vacation and save money by staying more local. In many communities - or nearby communities, there are often a number of free programs available. These will be geared toward particular ages.

Valerie, at FrugalFamilyFunBlog.com provides a few other places where you might be able to find free local program or day trip ideas:

• The Public Library
• Community Centers -
• Churches - Vacation Bible Schools
• Craft Stores
• Book Stores
• Summer Camps
• Museums
• And more!

It could prove to be a good idea if you did your research on places you want to go to if you ever had a chance. Make a list of these places, and divide them up into categories of Free, Low Cost, and Wish List. You might even let your children help you make the list.

Then, when you want to find low cost vacation destinations close by, or need a last minute vacation or a getaway for a few hours for you and the kids, you already have a list. Now, just add them to your vacation dates and choose them according to location. Put them in groups and visit one or two a day.
