Personal branding guru Dan Schawbel had an insightful piece recently on how things you can do to promote yourself can also get you fired. Branding has become very personal these days and the relationship we have with our companies is changing very fast, so I think it’s important to focus on what you shouldn’t do at work, not just branding and career strategies. I view web 2.0 technologies at the driving force that converges our professional and social lives. Who you are and how you behave outside of work can impact how you’re perceived inside of work and visa versa.
The list of mistakes you can make is thought-provoking. Think you're better than the older employees because you're tech savvy and they're not? That could end up costing you your job. Calling in sick (when you're not really) so you can work of personal stuff can also cost you your job.
Top the the list? Friend your boss on Facebook and then complain there about your job...

Social Media is making it easy to get in trouble in personal and professional relationships - but at the same time it helps us interact with others.
