The Simple Dollar:
For me, Will's experience is the single worst aspect of having significant debt: it forces certain life choices upon you. It's bad enough paying back the money itself, but the requirement of paying it all back, month after grinding month, means that it affects your other decisions, too. If you run up a credit card debt, suddenly you're stuck at work, unable to quit and seek out better solutions in your life because you may default on the debt, destroy your credit, and face repossessionissues, for example.
Frugal for Life:
If I am out shopping or eating with someone and they decide to pay, I still buy or order as if it was my money. Keeping the amount of spending down lets them know I am considering their finances and don't want to waste it.
Stop Buying Crap:
Most of the times, I believe I have an appearance that only a mother would love.
Occasionally, I'm fugly.
And that's okay (at least to me). I've already mentioned the need for a new wardrobe, which I'll definitely get around to when I start caring (sometime this century).
The fact is, I'm not exactly out to impress anyone and I don't care too much about my looks, so I save the money on clothing, shoes, hair cuts, what have you.
Tired Buy Happy:
Here's how my various family members reacted upon being told that I might have cancer again...
