Financial Freedumb on tip cups at coffee shops and the like:
Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate great customer service, but this "tip" thing is just getting a little out of hand. When I buy my coffee, I don't think a simple, "Hi, how are you doing?," "Do you want room for cream?," and "Anything else for you today?" deserves a tip. Come on, I mean I'm already paying you at least 50% margin on what I'm buying!
John, on spending $2000 on a commissioned painting:
It's a lot of money to spend when you've got a negative net worth. However, on the whole we're pleased with this purchase. Art is something we care a lot about. We're enjoying working with the artist in the process, and we believe that this has the potential to be a good investment.
Crazy Money describes his financial practices (and why they're not as bad as they sound):
...some of my current financial strategies involve: * Accumulating as much credit card debt as possible * Contributing nothing to my Roth IRA * Making minimum payments to draw out my mortgage longer * Lowering my credit score by opening new bank accounts
