Personal finance tips, tricks and stories from around the
Web...
1. This week's Carnival of Personal Finance includes an interesting essay from Mark on whether investing in companies that "do good" is really at all beneficial to those companies. (And does avoiding the stocks of "bad" companies hurt them at all?)
2. The new tax package is going to make it easier for high-wage earners to slip into a Roth IRA.
3. Suze Orman's got a financial quiz ostensibly for graduates, but I'd say good luck aceing this one no matter how old you are.
4. Madame X has a sneak preview of personal Finance Books soon to hit the shelves.
5. Bluebird's not happy about Verizon reporting to the credit bureaus, but I left him a comment on why it's actually a good thing for many people.
6. I'm a sucker for a home-buying story, as buying a home is almost always a hugely intelligent financial decision. Like all the cool kids, 2million's doing it.
7. One of the most ambitious PF feats you'll find right now is Tricia's ongoing fight to erase over $37,000 of credit card debt. She's slashed about 6K in just a few months.
8. Money Musings on the advantages of making your debt known to others.
9. USA Today has another in its ongoing series of personal finance makeovers. This time its a fairly well-to-do couple that can't seem to save a cent, and what a financial pro suggests they do to change that.
10. Jane Bryant Quinn is a personal finance expert, but her best advice is just to keep it simple.
