More Tips to Help You Save On Heating Costs

Filed in archive Saving on February 3, 2009

With so many people laid off of work and having a hard time getting by, high heating costs is something you can do
without. Most of these tips are rather inexpensive, but when put together, they add up to a rather large savings. Here are some
more tips about how you can save money in the rest of this cold and snowy winter.

1. Replace Your Air Filter

A clogged air filter will only make your furnace work that much harder to keep the house warm. By replacing an old filter with a new one, it will let the air flow easier through the house and the furnace won't have to work as hard to do it. Filters don't cost much but a new one could help you save money quickly.

2. Make Sure Your Heating Vents Are Clear

This is the same principle as I just mentioned - blocking the flow of air will only make the furnace work harder. Keep them open and you will have more efficient heating - and save money, too.

3. Close The Damper in the Fireplace

If you leave it open, you are letting out a lot of heat. Close it, and you will feel the difference - less draft, too.

4. Convert to Most Cost-Effective Fuel

In most areas, gas, oil, or electric is cheaper than the other choices. You also may find that one will change price less often than the others in your area. Switch to that source and save money. Also, if wood is readily available in your area, you may want to add a wood burning stove to reduce the costs even more.
