There are a number of things that you can do to lower the costs of your air conditioning bills. Generally, the more steps you take, the more you can lower those A/C bills. Here are several things you can do to enjoy the cool air at less cost to you.

1. Clean Our Your A/C Filter. If you have a central air conditioning unit, you should take a hose to it and spray the filter clean. This will allow air to flow through it faster, which means that the unit will take less time to cool and not have to work so hard.

2. Make Sure the Ductwork Is Sealed Properly. If your air conditioning ducts have the tape coming off, or if there are holes anywhere they should not be, this is making your A/C system work harder than it needs to. The air is cooling areas that it does not need to, and less air is going where it is supposed to. This results in your system having to work longer than necessary.

3. Get Air Conditioner Service If It Is Not Cooling Like It Should. If your air conditioner is not cooling like you think it should, it may mean that your air conditioner unit may need servicing. It will cost less to use once it is repaired and operating more efficiently.

4. Raise the Thermostat When You're Not There. Raising the thermostat a few degrees while you are gone for a few hours will help you save money, according to air-conditioners-and-heaters.com. They also state that for every degree below 78 degrees your thermostat is set, that it will cost you about an extra eight percent more in electricity.
