Is Retirement In Your Future?
Filed in archive on April 5, 2005

USA Today has an article in today's paper about the annual Retirement Confidence Survey conducted by nonprofit Employee Benefit Research Institute.
I find this disturbing:
...65% of workers are "very confident" or "somewhat confident" of funding their retirements.
Although the overall confidence reading remains high, workers acknowledge that they haven't saved as much as they should.
In fact, most haven't saved much at all.
The study found that 52% of those surveyed have less than $25,000 set aside for retirement; 13% have $25,000 to $49,999, and 11% have $50,000 to $99,999. Just 21% have $100,000 or more, and most of those are workers 45 and older.
Folks, as the saying goes you have to plan the work and work the plan. It's binary so there has to be both parts. You can't just think about it, you have to do it.
If you know you are falling behind in planning for your retirement don't sit idly, silently by. If it's an intimidating subject reach out to someone who can offer you guidance. HR at work is a good place to start for your employer sponsored retirement plans. Consult a financial professional. Do something! Contrary to what some would have us believe, most of us are not capable of doing our jobs, raising families and being CFO of You & Your Family, Inc.
