I Hate When the Market’s Closed
Posted by admin in Investing

You might not be working today, but I am. And when I'm working, I want the stock market open. While I'm sitting at my computer as a rat in the race, I want to know there is the possibility that a company I own a small piece of has announced big news that has sent the stock skyrocketing, bringing me one step closer to an early retirement. It doesn't happen often, and lately the announcements are generally of a much more sinister nature, but the fact is that it COULD happen. But only if the market is open. And it's not. So I'm anxious and nervous and altogether more crabby today.
As if that's not enough, no mail today, either. When there's mail delivery, there's always the outside chance that today is the day I find out about a big inheritance from a relative I didn't know I had, or that I won the sweepstakes from an entry I filled out while at a baseball game last season or… who knows? The possibilities are endless. But no mail, no possibilities.
If any Congressperson wants to introduce a bill stating that the stock markets should remain open and mail delivery should be uninterrupted 365 days a year (366 days this year), I will support it. Of course that would be political suicide, but sometimes it's more important to be right than to be popular.

Hah – I feel you. The only bad part would be 100 or so more days in the year when bills could come.
