Do You Need Special Contents Insurance?
Posted by admin in Information About

If you have possessions in your home, or in your apartment, that have an extra special value, then you need to get special coverage for them. Ordinary content insurance on a homeowner's or renter's insurance policy does not adequately cover more valuable items and will not give you their real value.
It is important to remember that if you have a break-in that thieves are most likely to grab the most valuable things that they can see and take. This means that an event such as this is apt to be very costly, and the insurance company will probably only give you a fraction of what it is really worth – if you only have a standard renter's insurance policy. This is even truer if you subtract depreciation for items like antiques or art.
Items of special value need to be insured separately from a standard policy (or as a rider) so that you will be able to get much greater value from the insurance company. This is also true of business equipment such as computers. An insurance company will only cover up to about $2,500 for a home business without special coverage. Without it, everything above that amount is lost.
If you do not have money to be able to easily replace your personal items that are stolen, destroyed by fire, or natural disaster, etc., then you need special content coverage. For many people, the cost of contents insurance is about $10-$15 per month for the peace of mind you need. It can be even cheaper if you obtain your policy with the same company that holds your auto insurance.
