Discover Motiva Tries to Motivate You to Pay On Time

Here's how it works: If you pay at least your minimum payment on time each month for six straight months, on the seventh month you'll get your interest charges refunded back to you, which basically means you don't pay any interest that month. Discover Motiva also carries a Cashback Bonus program similar to the traditional Discover card's, although it appears to be slightly less generous in that it doesn't have the "Get More" offers that give 5% on certain purchases.
The Motiva obviously isn't for everyone. If you always pay your credit card bill on time (and you should), there's no reason to have this. Its target customer really seems to be the customer who doesn't make a ton of purchases each month, but who can't quite seem to pay off those few purchases, either. They're not making a ton of cash back from Discover, so they might be better off getting the break on interest twice a year.
I'm guessing this will be a success for Discover. It's got a nice, clear message---pay on time for six months, pay no interest the next month---and by keeping the Cashback Bonus, it will seem like a no-brainer to people that habitually carry balances. If that's you, you might want to check it out.
