A Little Icky

A Little Icky
You may have heard how 25 kazillion U.S. vets had their information stolen when a VA employee took their info home, only to have his house burglarized and the info taken as part of the burglar's booty.

Today comes this press release: Equifax to Offer 50 Percent Discount to Veterans Who Order Equifax Credit Watch(TM) Monitoring Products

Now I understand that the supposed sentiment here is that these vets who may have had their information stolen are going to want to make sure it's not used for nefarious purposes. But somehow what I picture in my head is someone at equifaxlinks reading about the theft of the vets' info and shouting, "Hot damn! Business opportunity!"

That feeling lingers a bit more when you see that the service they are offering at half-price (through June 30th) is something that it appears you must buy for at least a three-month period.

If Equifax wanted to come across better, they would've offered a free month of monitoring and then pitched the vets on paying to keep the service going. As it is, it feels a little icky.
